Intent
The intent of our PSHE education enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.
Implementation
As a school we have invested in training in PSHE Association Programme of Study and have further chose this as a basis for our curriculum framework and have adapted it to reflect the context of our school and local community, to address our pupils’ needs and stages of development and to help support high quality teaching.
The Core Themes are:
• Health and Wellbeing– Healthy Lifestyles, Growing and Changing, Keeping Safe
• Relationships – Feelings and Emotions, Healthy Relationships, Valuing Difference
• Living in the Wider World – Rights and Responsibilities, Environment, Money
When teaching PSHE we take into consideration different faiths/religions, values and beliefs and ensure that we are providing our children with high quality teaching which takes the above into account. We also cover a whole range of lifeskills including: British Values and the importance of it, fire safety, water safety, road safety, stranger danger, anti-bullying, mental health, bike safety, first aid, online safety and keeping safe outdoors. These skills are covered through lessons, assemblies, planned weeks/days and by inviting in visitors/people from the community.
