Intent 

Sale and Davys School community work together to promote and develop the skills, knowledge and appreciation of music. Through a rich and varied curriculum, our children are able to use the language of music to discuss and critique a wide range of music across history. Children will be provided with the opportunities to sing and be involved in musical performances; developing their vocal skills as well as exploring the playing of different instruments – including composing their own music. Our overall intention, is to encourage a love of music that will endure throughout their lifetime.  

Implementation 

• Music units covered are chosen to cover a broad and progressive curriculum. 
• All children will be taught how to play a musical instrument by specially trained  teachers from the Wider Opportunities programme.  
• A carefully planned timetable of songs, covering a range of genres and musicians,  will be listened to when children enter the classroom in the morning and when  walking into Collective Worship. 
• We sing together as a whole school daily in our Collective Worship. 
• All children are taught and encouraged to use the language of music whilst learning  and discussing work. All children are encouraged to reflect upon their own personal opinions of the music  pieces covered. Children are given the opportunities to play different instruments and perform in  groups and for an audience.  
• Children are provided with opportunities to compose their own simple tunes and  perform them to an audience. 
• We will support children in developing a sense of confidence and ownership when  singing and performing at our termly Church celebrations to parents.  
• Children are encouraged to evaluate and amend their own work as well as the work  of their peers as it progresses.
