PE Intent and Implementation
Intent
Sale and Davys School community work together to promote and develop a love of PE and sport in school. We aim to do this by developing the fundamental movement skills of Agility, Balance and Coordination and applying these through the core skills of Running, Jumping, Throwing and Catching. Through the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and fostering resilience and determination we intend for all children to achieve success in PE and sport in our school at their own level. All children will also have the opportunity to learn and develop swimming skills and gain an understanding of water safety as well as the personal, social, emotional and physical skills nurtured during Forest School sessions.
Implementation
• PE is taught across the school for 2 x 1 hour lessons per week.
• Medium term plans show a series of lessons following the objectives from the progression grids.
• Reception Class follows the EYFS curriculum Physical Development strand, adapting to match the developmental needs of the pupils.
• Years 3 and 4 attend swimming lessons for 45 minutes per week, following the ASA Aquatic Award scheme.
• “Soccerstars” provide 2 x level 3 coaches to deliver Key Stage 2 PE lessons for 1 hour per week, following the provided planning materials. • Lesson observations show lots of good practice.
• Annual Sports week is extremely well received with many positive comments from pupil and parent questionnaires.
• After school sports are available for all pupils: Football, dance, netball, Tri-Sports.
• Regular sports fixtures against local schools. • Years 5 and 6 pupils receive cycling coaching from Cycle Derby in the spring term.
• Each class devotes a topic to “Sports”, immersing the children through the creative curriculum.
• Each class participates in a 6 week block of Forest School sessions for 2 hours per week.
