At Sale and Davys C.E. Primary School, we believe in shaping not only the minds of our children but also their sense of responsibility towards our planet. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and it is importa that we educate our pupils about its impacts and the importance of sustainability.
Our mission is to empower our children with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to lead the way in creating a sustainable future. We are committed to integrating environmental education into our curriculum, promoting sustainable practices within our school community, and engaging with broader efforts to combat climate change.
Energy Efficiency: Reduce the school’s carbon footprint by replacing light bulbs with LEDs and exploring solar energy options.
Forest School: Offer hands-on learning experiences in a natural settings.
Reusable Water Bottles: Encourage the use of reusable bottles to cut down on plastic waste by providing pupils with a Sale and Davys branded reusable water bottle.
Faced with the challenge of revitalising our library area, we chose an innovative and eco-friendly approach: upcycling our existing shelving instead of purchasing new ones. This decision not only saved us money but also aligned with our commitment to environmental protection. A parent volunteer transformed our tired shelves into stylish, functional pieces that have completely rejuvenated the library's appearance. By repurposing the existing materials, we significantly reduced our environmental footprint and set an example for sustainable practices within our school community.
The money saved from not purchasing new shelving allowed us to redirect funds towards acquiring new books for our library, including a variety of reading materials on climate change and sustainability!
Giving Back to the Community
We also donated our older books to the Children's Book Project. This organisation distributes books to children and families in need, fostering a love for reading and learning in underprivileged communities.
